OpenLocker Announces First NIL Deals with New Jersey High School Athletes

  • 2 min read

Red Bank, NJ  December 28, 2021 –  OpenLocker, Inc, a technology startup company has inked deals with two New Jersey-based high school basketball players.  Ben Roy and Jayden Pierre are the first athletes in the state to announce that they will profit from their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).  The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) approved a proposal last month which will take effect on January 1, 2022. The decision comes on the heels of a similar policy enacted by the NCAA on July 1, 2021. OpenLocker intends to create a model for student-athletes who wish to monetize their NIL and engage with fans through the sale of one-of-a-kind and limited edition Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in its marketplace.

Roy and Pierre will be featured in OpenLocker’s upcoming Legendary Prospects of New Jersey Basketball NFT Collection powered by NJ Hoop Recruit dropping in February 2022. The athletes will receive a majority of the revenue and create digital collectibles for fan engagement. OpenLocker is creating a platform for fans to obtain verified ownership of athletes’ digital currency and gain access to an exclusive on-line community and VIP events. Fans will also be able to earn rewards for engagement and receive perks tied to athletes’ performance and milestones.  OpenLocker and NJ Hoop Recruit will announce the full roster of the Legendary Prospects in January 2022.

“For years, NJ high school basketball stars have garnered huge fan bases and followers from their scholastic success. Until now they have been unable to receive any benefits or sponsorships for their NIL. OpenLocker will help connect fans and sponsors with athletes using technology to engage and reward all parties. ” said Justinn Delaney of NJ Hoop Recruit.
